Storage and Durability of Essential Oils
Essential oils are sensitive to temperature and light. They should be kept in dark glass bottles (brown, violet, black, blue etc.) and in temperature of 15-22 Celsius degrees.
The most volatile are citrus oils which can last for 12-18 months. Stored in lower temperature e.g. in the fridge they will last a bit longer.
Woody and resinous oils are the most durable - 3-4 years. The rest of oils around 2 years.
Air tightness is the next important matter. The container must be hermetical otherwise the oil may quickly evaporate and change its fragrance. The oil that becomes opaque is useless.
